On 10 September 2014, the Egyptian Patent Office and Omani Ministry of Commerce signed a memo of understanding by which the Omani Patent Office will receive technical assistance and training from the Egyptian Patent Office as well as from the Egyptian Academy of Scientific Research and Technology. With Oman’s rapid expansion and innovation in industries such as plastics, packaging, petrochemicals, mining and other areas, the number of patent application filings in Oman is expected to increase. This collaboration will allow the Oman Patent Office to draw on the expertise of their Egyptian counterpart. A training program will be launched to increase the efficiency of the Omani Patent Office as well as a secure network to share information. This comes as a preliminary step towards further cooperation in the fields of intellectual property as well as science and technology between the two countries. (zawya.com, 11 September 2014)
