The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the Syrian Trade Mark Office is requiring legalised Israel boycott declarations from all trade mark applicants. This declaration is in a questionnaire format and seeks confirmation from trade mark applicants as to whether they render or have rendered services to any Israeli firm or business or whether the business owns or participates in owning a business in Israel, amongst other questions. Such declarations must be on company letterhead and legalised to any Arabian Consulate and submitted along with the legalised power of attorney. If the legalised declaration is not submitted, local legalisation of the power of attorney will not be progressed, the trade mark application will not proceed to registration and may be deemed abandoned. Several agents are discussing this new requirement with the Trade Mark Office (Syrian Trade Mark Office, October 2014.)
