The United Arab Emirates has acceded to both the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances and the Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled. The Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances aims to strengthen the economic rights of film actors and other performers and enable performers to share proceeds with producers for revenues generated internationally by audiovisual productions. The treaty will also contribute to safeguarding the rights of performers against the unauthorized use of their performances in audiovisual media, such as television, film and video. The Marrakesh Treaty focuses on copyright exceptions to facilitate the creation of accessible versions of books and other copyrighted works. It sets a norm for countries ratifying the Treaty to have a domestic copyright exception covering these activities and to allow for the import and export of such materials. (wipo.int, 22 October 2014)
