The Director of Dubai Customs, Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, met with the Consul General of Italy, Giovanni Favilli, to foster ties between the two countries. The Italian Consul General hailed Dubai Customs’ innovative business processes, calling it a model for accelerated procedures coupled with firm controls on goods and cargo and expressed Italy’s satisfaction with the extraordinary efforts exerted by Dubai Customs in the protection of intellectual property rights and the fight against counterfeiting and piracy. Mr Favilli stated, “We are extremely happy with the constructive measures being taken to safeguard the rights of international trademark owners, including Italian brands in various sectors of production. Our cooperation with Dubai Customs in this regard has no limits,” adding that “[s]uch IPR efforts have boosted the international community’s confidence in Dubai as a safe and favourable destination for investment.” (ameinfo.com, 20 September 2014).
